SUMMER CURRICULUM

Summer Curriculum for Challengers Camp Groups

For our Challengers Camp program, congregations typically plan and lead an hour-long Bible study each camp day. The resources below are from our summer curriculum and will aid in your development of Bible studies that fit with our daily themes and activities.

The overall theme for this week is “In the Wilderness”. The curriculum is developed by the National Council of Churches and published by Chalice Press for use in camps and outdoor ministries and customized for LWM by Jesse Barr, our Program Innovator.
Each day builds on the Genesis creation narrative, incorporates Gospel lessons and ties it to aspects of campers’ personal faith journeys:
  • Day 1 – Wilderness Awes emphasizes the beauty all around us in God’s creation while welcoming all campers into the holy and wild place that is camp.
  • Day 2 – Wilderness Leads explores wilderness experiences and points to where God shows up for us.
  • Day 3 –Wilderness Frightens shows how wilderness may be disorienting, but with God, we can take bold steps and face our fears.
  • Day 4 – Wilderness Reveals reflects on how our different roles, experiences, and choices shape us and those around us.
  • Day 5 – Wilderness Awaits prepares campers for their journeys home so they are equipped to face wilderness moments and look for God everywhere.

The theme teaches the importance of community as we trek through the wilderness and helps campers discover how we are intertwined and where God shows up for us.
